1977 LCCP Schedule

A brief history of the
Latchley Chilsworthy and Coxpark Show

The origins of the Latchley Chilsworthy and Coxpark Show date from the 1930s when a horticultural show was held on August Bank Holiday Monday based around the old school and the old church hall in the village of Latchley.

It continued as an annual event on the calendar until the early 1960s when, sadly, it ceased owing to the depletion of an organizing committee.

It was revived in 1977 on the instigation of the late Ivan Standing, who recruited me, John Nattles, Derek Johns and the late Ron Green, plus a committee of helpers to organize a show following the very successful village celebrations for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. It has run successfully each year since then. The pictures on this page were taken in 1977.

The field previously used was first offered by Ron Green and and this tradition contnued with the kind permission of susbequent landlords until 2010.

The Show relies totally on those who participate. Not only the committee and show-day helpers, all of whom give their time freely throughout the year, but also all of the supporters, traders and the entrants to the various classes together with the general public who have always turned out in great numbers. My thanks go to everyone for this.

If anyone is interested in becoming a member of the general committee or simply offering support during the year to ensure the continuing success of the show please feel free to contact me.

Thank you
